Garnier Simply Essentials Soothing 2 in 1 Makeup Remover Review

Friday 16 September 2016

There comes a time in everyone’s life when they forget to bring their trusted makeup remover on an overnight trip. Usually my makeup remover is the thing I check repeatedly to ensure I have but for some reason, I brainfarted and didn’t bother looking for it. I guess there’s a silver lining in this major first world problem story as my forgetfulness turned into me trying a new makeup remover.

I usually use the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water but, as that wasn’t available in the store I was in, I went for the Garnier Simply Essentials Soothing 2 in 1 Makeup Remover – and breathe. I was drawn to it for the same reason I’m drawn to Lush Dirty Springwash: the blue of the liquid. I’m easy to please.

The Garnier Simply Essentials Soothing 2 in 1 Makeup Remover (this name is too long) is made up of cleansing water – the clear liquid – and a makeup removing oil – the blue liquid. In order to get the makeup remover to work, you have to shake the bottle to blend both liquids and then use it like any normal makeup remover.

I find that whenever I’m removing my makeup with this, the liquids separate very quickly so I spend a lot of my time shaking the bottle like an idiot. I’m paranoid about using all of the makeup removing oil before the cleansing water so I shake the bottle rather vigorously.

Once both liquids are blended and on my cotton pads, I can’t really fault this product. With most makeup removers I have to hold the cotton pad on my eyelids for a few seconds before gently wiping and even then I have to do it a few times. With the Garnier Simply Essentials Soothing 2 in 1 Makeup Remover however, I can just wipe the cotton pad right over my eyelids and voila, my eye makeup is gone. It’s also a similar scenario for the rest of my makeup and even the brightest of lipsticks are completely removed by this product.

I guess my earlier statement is a lie as there is a downside to the Garnier Simply Essentials Soothing 2 in 1 Makeup Remover. It is atrociously oily! It leaves my skin glistening and greasy and it is not pleasant. I always have to either wash my face or use a cleanser to get the icky feeling and look off of my skin. This makeup remover is designed for sensitive skin but I can’t imagine the heavy oiliness is good for anyone who already suffers from oily skin.

I really wish the Garnier Simply Essentials Soothing 2 in 1 Makeup Remover wasn’t so oily as it would’ve been pretty much perfect otherwise. I love how quick this product makes the mundane task of removing my makeup at the end of the day but I just can’t get passed the oiliness. I think this will be perfect for Winter when my skin is drier but for now, I’m back to the Garnier Micellar Water.
